Colour Categorisation Cards
The child that has had plenty of experience with matching work will be ready for the added cognitive step of sorting and categorisation.
Sorting, categorisation and classification are all skills that we use when thinking and reasoning about the things we see, hear, touch, taste and smell. They help up to heighten our awareness, focus our attention and verbalise the patterns that we notice. The ability to sort and classify exercises the brain pathways that will later be used in mathematics, science and language. The young child looks and listens, thinks and learns, defines and redefines. Attributes are sorted and classified and then sorted and classified all over again when something new is added to the child's framework of knowledge.
There are three stage in sorting and classification work.
Stage 1 - sorts objects that are identical in every attribute except for one
Stage 2 - sorts objects that differ in more than one attribute
Stage 3 - classification of objects that are similar but not identical
The Colour Categorisation Cards are for Stage 3 sorting work. There are 60 cards to sort and classify, representing 10 everyday objects, and 6 colours. Real photographs are used, not illustrations.
Cards are printed on 100gsm paper and laminated. Corners are rounded for safe handling.
